How auto repair shops and detailers can earn more Google reviews

6 min read · Updated October 9, 2026

People pick a mechanic they don’t know almost entirely on trust, and Google reviews are where they look for it. Auto shops have a perfect moment to ask: the customer is picking up a car that works again, or a detail that looks brand new.

Ask at pickup, with the keys

Hand back the keys, explain what you did, and then ask: “If we took good care of you, a Google review helps a small shop like ours a lot.” A card on the counter, or on the key tag, that opens your review page in one tap makes it easy to do before they drive off.

Show the work

Before and after photos of a repair or detail build trust, and customers are more likely to mention specifics in their review when they’ve seen them. Text the photos with the invoice and a review link.

Mobile detailers: ask before you pack up

If you work at the customer’s home or office, ask while they’re looking at the finished car. A tap card in your kit works without signal problems or awkward spelling of your business name.

Quotes that turn into jobs

A lot of people shop around. A clear written quote with an option to pay a deposit to book the job wins more of them than a number on the phone. It also sets expectations, which means fewer surprised (and unhappy) customers at pickup.

Stay within the rules

  • No discounts or free oil changes in return for reviews.
  • Ask every customer, not just the ones who seemed happy.
  • Reply to bad reviews calmly, with the facts, and invite them to call you.
